Welcome to the “Tribute Issue” of Hood Talk Magazine. We’re honoring the legacy of Baba Dick Gregory and honoring the Black Man. It feels so good to say that. I honor you Black Man.
You are a King.
I am one of the fortunate ones who can say I’ve met a few Kings. The first one is my Daddy. For as long as I’ve known him, he’s carried himself as royalty with his Queen, my mother, right beside him. Then, he introduced me to another King. King Jesus – and not the white one you’ve seen on your grandmothers’ wall.
Haha, I know. I guess I subconsciously thought that was him too. But it’s not. King Jesus was a Black Man.
I’ve also ran into some pawns masquerading as kings. I’d like to think that maybe one day they will pick up their robes and put on their crowns and take their rightful place.
The King in my life now is a certified real one. He means more than the world to me. He’s shown me things I’ve never seen before and I’m here for the wild ride. I hope you enjoy this issue and I hope it inspires you honor the Black Kings in your life.
